Last week, Rick Ross announced another addition to Maybach Music. The Chicago hip hop scene recently returned to promience. Chief Keef enjoyed a strong run earlier this year, peaking when Interscope Records signed him. Already having popular artists in such cities as Washington, DC (Wale), Philadelphia (Meek Mill), and New York City (Torch and Maybach Dice), Chicago lacked an artist.

Rockie Fresh has been aligned with Rick Ross for some time. Preparing to sign with a major label, Rockie Fresh had discussed with multiple companies. But, when it came down to business, he decided to take Rick Ross’ offer. Upon joining Maybach Music, the Chicago rapper released a remix to “You a Lie.” Celebrating his new deal, the remix featured Rick Ross.

Billboard’s The Juice spoke to Rockie Fresh and he explained why he chose to join Rick Ross and Maybach Music, as opposed to the other labels. Rockie Fresh said he always enjoyed a brotherly relationship with Rick Ross, but he did not think he would sign him. Already holding discussions with Bad Boy Records, Rockie Fresh ultimately chose to join the ever-popular Maybach Music. Though Bad Boy did all they could to make him comfortable, Rockie Fresh said he joined Rick Ross because of the respect he had for his overall sound and the energy at Maybach Music.
