Lil Wayne forces Young Money out of Hot 97’s Summer Jam 2012

It is that time, once again, for Lil Wayne. Every summer, Lil Wayne delivers a new single, which usually leads up to the release of his new album at the close of the summer. This year, Lil Wayne is preparing the sequel to his second 2010 release, I Am Not a Human Being. Last week, the first single from the album, “My Homies Still,” with Big Sean was released.

Ironically, Lil Wayne is currently in the middle of a feud with Pusha T, Big Sean’s label-mate over at Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music. Historically, the relationship between Kanye West and Lil Wayne has been strong, despite Lil Wayne’s war of words with Jay-Z. Lil Wayne’s right hand, Mack Maine, addressed the Pusha T feud, saying it did not extend to the entire G.O.O.D. family.

Regardless, G.O.O.D. Music showed up at Hot 97’s Summer Jam 2012, as Big Sean, Pusha T, and 2 Chainz performed “Mercy.” Nicki Minaj was supposed to headline the show, when Lil Wayne made a surprising statement on Twitter. Lil Wayne revealed Young Money was not going to do Summer Jam after all and Nicki Minaj never took the stage.

The surprise guest Nicki Minaj had planned for Summer Jam 2012 was Nas. Making up for her loss, Nas brought Lauryn Hill out to perform their 1996 classic, “If I Ruled the World.”
