The champion of the New York underground has been French Montana. There are many New York-area hip hop artists making noise, but it was French Montana who led the New York comeback. Though he has been pushing hard for five years, it was not until last year that French Montana actually signed to a label and began working on an album.

French Montana is preparing to release Excuse My French on July 17 and has some of the most-powerful and popular figures in hip hop assisting him. Speaking on collaborations, French Montana told Hip-Hop Wired the album would be very in-house, only featuring his Coke Boys, Maybach Music, and Bad Boy. The executive producers of the album are Rick Ross and Diddy.

Together a tandem, French Montana said Diddy was the best to ever do it and Rick Ross is a genius. In the end, French Montana chose Bad Boy Records over Ross’ Maybach Music, however. French Montana has stated the best numbers were with Diddy. Despite the way things have ended at Bad Boy Records for other artists, French Montana said each artist had enough control to push for a different outcome. At the time, looking for the best situation for himself, Bad Boy Records was the best option.
