This time of the year has become known as the time when fans first hear the new material DJ Khaled has been working on. DJ Khaled embarked on this journey, six years ago, as he rose from being a local Miami DJ to being one of hip hop’s fixtures. Slowly, DJ Khaled turned his brand, We the Best, into one of the biggest movements in hip hop.

Once an outsider, DJ Khaled and his band of misfits, Rick Ross, Cash Money Records’ roster of artists, and Young Money, now run the rap game. Earlier in his career, DJ Khaled was criticized for not selling records, only releasing hit singles. After signing with Cash Money in 2010, DJ Khaled has since had a top-selling album.

Nothing can be said about DJ Khaled except he is an authority in the rap game. Last night, he released the first single from his Kiss the Ring album. The song is called “Take it to the Head,” which features Chris Brown, Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj, and Lil Wayne. Less than 24 hours after its release and the song has already become a hit.

XXL spoke to DJ Khaled this morning about the new song and the new album. On the new album, DJ Khaled said he is involved in every aspect of the recording. Khaled went on to say every record taken from his album is custom-made.
