A little over two weeks ago, the hip hop community reflected on the life of The Notorious B.I.G., as the fifteenth anniversary of his death occurred on March 9. At the time, B.I.G. was at the height of his career, highly anticipating what his future would hold. The next priority on Biggie’s agenda was releasing his highly-anticipated sophomore album, Life After Death.

Early in 1997, The Notorious B.I.G. began releasing singles from the album. One song which captured listeners was the lead single, “Hypnotize.” The music video for the song was the first time B.I.G. walked in six months. Sadly, The Notorious B.I.G. would be dead weeks after the music video was filmed. As the music video made its rounds, fans mourned their deceased hero.

March 9 was when fans learned The Notorious B.I.G. had passed away and it was another reason fans flocked to record stores across the United States to purchase Life After Death. The album was met with critical acclaim and was the second highest-selling hip hop album of all-time. MTV recently reflected upon the overall impact of B.I.G.’s second album.
