Big K.R.I.T. is not the only new artist making noise from Mississippi, as Tito Lopez has also built a name for himself. The difference between the two Mississippi rappers was their label situation. Highly-publicized, Big K.R.I.T. has been signed to Def Jam since 2010, meanwhile Tito Lopez has been independent.
At SXSW, AllHipHop.com held a breeding ground showcase, where many unsigned artist performed. Tito Lopez was among the artists who performed. The performance from the up-and-coming rapper was different from the others. While other rappers perfomed their songs and spoke with the crowd, Lopez had an announcement.
In many ways, Tito Lopez is still a breeding ground artist, but he is no longer unsigned. During his performance, Tito Lopez revealed he was the latest artist to sign to Capitol Records.
