Rick Ross may have eclipsed Lil Wayne in popularity in 2011, but Lil Wayne has proven to still be the top rapper in the game. When it comes to sales, Lil Wayne is still the king of the rap game. His most-recent album, Tha Carter IV, was recently certified as triple platinum. Those sales, along with his tour earnings have made Lil Wayne even richer.

Billboard recently chronicled the top-earning artists of 2011. The earnings are compiled from mostly tour sales, but album sales are also accounted. Other than Lil Wayne, the only other hip hop artist to make the list was Kanye West. Last year, he enjoyed the continued record sales from his comeback effort, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, and Watch the Throne.

The popularity of Lil Wayne extends far beyond hip hop. Lil Wayne finished in the top five of the overall list. Last year, alone, Lil Wayne made over $23 million.
