Kanye West wins big at 54th Annual Grammy AwardsKanye West wins big at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards.

Last night, Kanye West won several awards for his efforts over the past year. In September 2009, the controversial rapper fell from grace, during the MTV Video Music Awards. After Taylor Swift won the ‘Best Female Video’ over Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies” video, many were shocked. Kanye jumped on stage, snatched the mic, and interrupted her acceptance speech.

For nearly a year, Kanye West was hounded by the media, because of his outburst. President Obama referred to him as a “jackass,” as others also spoke on him. Those close to Kanye said his anger was not over the video, but rather anger over the sudden loss of his mother and his rise to fame. For years, West remained behind-the-scenes and close to his mother. After he became famous, his mother died, crushing Kanye and serving as the inspiration for his 808s & Heartbreak album.

Kanye West turned everything around on his 2010 comeback album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, where he explained his 2009 outburst. At last night’s Grammy ceremony, Kanye West took home the ‘Best Rap Album’ award for his 2010 effort. West would also win ‘Best Rap Collaboration’ for his “All of the Lights” single. During the summer of 2011, alongside Jay-Z, Kanye West returned with “Otis.” The single would provide another win for Kanye West for ‘Best Rap Performance.’ Known for his awards show outbursts, Kanye West was noticeably absent from the 2012 Grammy Awards.
