Not many child rappers have been able to have much success upon transitioning into adulthood. Bow Wow is among the exceptions to the rule, as he has enjoyed several successful years as an adult rapper. While his subject matter has changed, Bow Wow is out to prove he deserves a spot with the best in the game.

In 2009, Bow Wow signed with Cash Money Records and began working on his first project with the label. Initially, Bow Wow intended to release his Cash Money debut, Underrated, in 2011. However, the album was delayed until 2012, giving Bow Wow more time to record music for the release.

Bow Wow has stated the title of the album reflects how he feels in the rap game, despite the twelve years he has put in the game. Recently, Bow Wow discussed this, and more, with The Source.
