Until the Detroit Pistons took Magic Johnson’s Los Angeles Lakers to a decisive Game 7, he and Isiah Thomas were the best of friends. That series, however, started the Pistons/Lakers rivalry. Despite LA winning that series, Detroit had the momentum and swept them, the next year.
Between Magic Johnson and Isiah Thomas, things were never quite the same again. Long ago, both retired from the game, and remain quite chummy, at all NBA events. Apparently, there was still some animosity, however.
Last night, Magic Johnson and Isiah Thomas were speaking with each other on NBA TV. Their rivalry, and past tensions, came up in conversation. The two ended whatever residual beef they may have had and ended up hugging it out, which has had the sports world talking, all day long.
