Album Review: 2 Chainz – “B.O.A.T.S. II: Me Time”

Me Time officialIt’s always hard to follow up the original with a sequel, but that didn’t stop 2 Chainz from deciding to follow up Based on a T.R.U. Story with a sequel. Revamping the title of the album, 2 Chainz returned with B.O.A.T.S. II: Me Time, which came out earlier this month. 2 Chainz led this album with his “Feds Watching” single with Pharrell.

“Feds Watching” premiered back in May, but has not gotten the reaction of the singles off the last 2 Chainz album. Everybody, going into the new album, has agreed 2 Chainz’ momentum is not the game coming into Me Time. His last album was pure entertainment and a tough act to follow.

2 Chainz gets credit for attempting to change it up with Me Time, but at times, sounds a little lost with his album. Good thing about “lost” is that it falls under the category of creative and 2 Chainz is definitely that. Me Time is definitely filled with good music, but its underwhelming compared to what 2 Chainz has delivered in the past.

Even some of 2 Chainz’ mixtapes had more-impacting bangers than Me Time had. The second single, “Where U Been” with Cap1, follows the trend of underwhelming records from 2 Chainz. With the album out, 2 Chainz has also pushed “Used 2” and “I Do It” featuring Drake and Lil Wayne as singles. 2 Chainz brought a blast from the past on Me Time with Mase appearing on the new album along with other names including Lloyd, T-Pain, Fergie, Rich Homie Quan, Chrisette Michele, Sunni Patterson, and more.

Overall, 2 Chainz dropped an enjoyable album, but he didn’t put out anything memorable with Me Time and the impact doesn’t even match up with Based on a T.R.U. Story.
