Lizzo Responds to ‘Truth Hurts’ Plagiarism Claims; Adds Woman Who Originally Tweeted “100% That B*tch” Line as Writer on the Song

Lizzo is shutting down all claims that she plagiarized her hit song Truth Hurts.

Songwriters, Justin and Jeremiah Raisen, claim Lizzo took part in a writing session in which they wrote the song “Healthy,” which contained the infamous “I just took a DNA test turns out I’m 100% that b*tch” line. Lizzo eventually used that line for her #1 song, “Truth Hurts” and the brothers were never credited for the line.

Lizzo is denying that the brothers had anything to do with the lyric and claims she took it from a meme she saw. She also acknowledged singer, Mina Lioness, who tweeted the infamous line back in 2017. Lizzo has now added Mina as a writer to the song, which is currently tied for most weeks spent at #1 for a female rapper.

Lizzo addressed the plagiarism claims on her social media accounts today. She said, “Hey y’all… as I’ve shared before, in 2017, while working on a demo, I saw a meme that resonated with me, a meme that made me feel like 100% that b*tch. I sang that line in the demo, and I later used the line in Truth Hurts. The men who now claim a piece of Truth Hurts did not help me write any part of the song. They had nothing to do with the line or how I chose to sing it. There was no one in the room when I wrote Truth Hurts, except me, Ricky Reed, and my tears. That song is my life, and its words are my truth. I later learned that a tweet inspired the meme. The creator of the tweet is the person I am sharing my success with… not these men. Period. Thank you to everyone who has supported me and my song. XOXO.”

Lizzo has filed legal docs to ask a judge to not allow these men any copyright to the song. We will see how it plays out.
