The last time Missy Elliott was truly relevant, as in dominating the radio, and the charts, was 2005. That year proved to be the final year of that great era of hip hop and R&B music. While the music remained, the traditional talents faded from the spotlight.
Missy Elliott still guided the next generation, both directly via Ciara, and indirectly through the other acts. However, Missy Elliott has shown flashes of an ability to return to the forefront. Definitely, Missy Elliott did it, this past Monday.
Presented with the Video Vanguard award, at the VMAs, Missy Elliott stopped by Power 105.1 to talk to Angie Martinez. Revealing she was sick during her VMAs performance, Missy Elliott spoke on why she took a fourteen year hiatus. But, she revealed she and Lizzo are working together, also discussing her and Janet Jackson’s friendship.
