The year of 2019 has been full of unsung stories and heroes. Of course, there was Megan Thee Stallion, making the summer hot, but she wasn’t the only breakout artist. Straight out of Atlanta, Lil Nas X was also doing his thing.
Lil Nas X released “Old Town Road,” at the end of 2018, and it began hitting country charts, early in 2019. There was major controversy with the track, so Billy Ray Cyrus jumped on the remix. The remix was the first of many, but it propelled the song to number one.
The summer of 2019 had many hits, but “Old Town Road” was clearly the song of the summer. Lil Nas X is now a household name, even if his name is familiar, and the VMAs did the right thing, as he won Song of the Year. Hip hop Twitter is glad, but they also peeped shade with them playing Nicki Minaj right after his speech.
