HHV Exclusive: Cast of “A Madea Family Funeral” talk audition processes, how they approached their roles, and bringing their own personalities into the roles

Fourteen years ago, Tyler Perry burst onto the scene, as Madea, with Diary of a Mad Black Woman. With that movie, Tyler Perry forever changed the movie industry. Since then, Madea spawned a franchise that has been untouchable.

Tyler Perry, through his career, has discussed a potential Madea death, first mentioning this in late 2008. Because of how difficult it is to play the role, he toyed with the idea of ending it. Her popularity changed that, but many though A Madea Family Funeral would see her die.

A Madea Family Funeral does have a surprise death, but it isn’t Madea, although this is her farewell. Instead, another side of the family dealt with death and betrayal. Recently, Hip-HopVibe.com caught up with some of the Madea cast, Rome Flynn, KJ Smith, Courtney Burrell, and Ciera Payton discussed how they got their roles, and much more.
