Ariana Grande put on a tear jerking performance once she began crying while performing ‘Thank U,Next’ for her “Sweetener World Tour” at Washington D.C.’s Capital One Arena on Monday (Mar. 25). Things got emotional for Ariana, as she cried on stage while singing about Mac Miller on the anniversary of their first song collaboration together. Grande posted a sweet yet simple tribute to Miller on the anniversary of their song “The Way,” by writing: “six years” (followed with a small heart). The former couple also collaborated on his song “My Favorite Part” off his 2016 album, The Divine Feminine.

During her concert, Ariana just couldn’t hold back the tears.

Last night emotions were running high during her performance of “Thank U, Next,” as Grande is seen struggling to get through the song when she mentions Miller. Fans posted video footage her dancers were seen comforting her and providing support while in the background you can hear the fans showing their support and empathy for the songstress as well. in the performance, she tried to fight back more tears, but was able to lift her spirits by twerking with her dancers.

Previously Ari has spoken up about not performing certain songs affiliated with Mac because she’s still grieving and wants to just have fun with her fans as she goes through this troubling time.Grande has noted that songs about Miller, such as “Ghostin” and “Imagine” wouldn’t be on her Sweetener tour setlist because they’re “too heavy” to perform. When a fan asked about the likelihood of Grande singing “Ghostin” on tour, she tweeted:

if i can get thru it yea but right now it’s not on the set list. i jus want to have a good time with y’all and like … make it thru the show lol. love u sm. thank u for showing this song so much love. it means a great deal.”

The show must go on and Grande, ever so professional, carried on, with a little help from the audience to sing along when she couldn’t. Following her show, she later took to Instagram to apologize for crying during the performance and thanked fans for their continued support.
