Syracuse Basketball Coach Jim Boeheim Involved In Fatal Car Accident; Hit & Kills Man

Tragic story coming out of Syracuse, New York. Syracuse Men’s Basketball coach Jim Boeheim was involved in a vehicular accident which has taken the life of a local Syracuse individual.

Boeheim hit and killed 51-year-old Jorge Jimenez. The unfortunate accident happened just before midnight. Boeheim was leaving the Carrier Dome after his Syracuse team defeated Louisville by 20 points.

According to police, Jimenez was already outside of his car after an earlier accident on Interstate 690 had taken place. The initial accident disabled his car and left it in the middle of the freeway. That’s when Boeheim drove by and attempted to avoid the car. He instead ended up hitting Jimenez who was near the vehicle. Jimenez was transported to Upstate University Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Police say Boeheim is cooperating fully with authorities. Reports indicate that he went straight to police headquarters after the fatal accident. He also tested negative for any drugs or alcohol. While the The Onondaga County DA has stated that there isn’t any immediate legal action for his part in the accident, the investigation is ongoing.

Jim Boeheim has issued a statement:

“I am heartbroken that a member of our community died as the result of last night’s accident. Juli and I extend our deepest sympathies to the Jimenez family. Out of respect for those involved, I will not be providing further comment at this time.”
