Childish Gambino Wins Song Of The Year At #Grammys With “This Is America;” First Hip-Hop Song To Win The Award

Childish Gambino scored a huge W tonight at the 61st Grammys as he won Song of the Year for his “This Is America” song. The record discusses problematic issues in America such as racism and police brutality.

Gambino beat out Kendrick Lamar and SZA on “All The Stars,” “God’s Plan” by Drake, “Shallow” by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, “Boo’d Up” by Ella Mai, “The Middle” by Zedd, Maren Morris, Grey, and “The Joke” by Brandi Carlile. This Is America is also the first hip-hop song to win this award.

This Is America was also nominated for Record of the Year and Best R&B Song. Gambino was not in attendance to accept these though. His father passed away last month and news has come out that the hit TV series ‘Atlanta’ will not be aired in 2019 due to his schedule. Season two premiered last March and lasted until May.
