21 Savage and his lawyer, Attorney Charles H. Kuck are calling out the Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The attorney accuses ICE of trying to “unnecessarily punish him,” and claims that the agency is trying “to intimidate him into giving up his right to fight to remain in the United States.”
At a young age 21 Savage was brought to the U.S. and after recently arresting the “ I Am > I Was” rapper for allegedly overstaying his British-Visa, it seems as though he did apply for a U-Visa.
Kuck says his client applied for a U-Visa back in 2017 and knows about the pending application but decided to wait until this weekend to arrest 21 after a recent performance he did when he premiered a new verse about immigration on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. His attorney also points out the fact that ICE claimed he didn’t have any prior criminal charges that’s why he wasn’t captured sooner. According to criminal reports, Savage pled guilty to felony drug possession back in 2014, but that conviction was expunged last September.
Check this though, his representative Kuck also says the Visa 21 Savage applied for is based on him being a victim of crime. Kuck tells TMZ, that 21 was shot back in 2013 in an incident involving his best friend being murdered. Kuck says after that incident, 21 was “severely affected physically and mentally.” He goes on to say being a crime victim puts 21 Savage in a position for permanent residence.
Due to ICE detaining his client, Kuck is pulling receipts and calling them out. Kuck states 21 Savage is not a threat to his community nor is he a flight risk considers he also has children here. His attorney points out that his client has “U.S. citizen children” whom he supports and is eligible for relief from deportation.
The attorney goes on to say:
“As a minor, his family overstayed their work visas, and he, like almost two million other children, was left without legal status through no fault of his own.”
Now, an online petition has been started by the co-founder of Black Lives Matter, Patrisse Cullors, in an attempt to stop the possible deportation of 21.
