R. Kelly Says He Wants To Release His New Album But Needs To Find Distributor After Getting Dropped By Sony

R. Kelly is still under investigation in Atlanta and now by the FBI after more information surfaced regarding him having sex with underage women over the last three decades as documented in this month’s “Surviving R. Kelly” series on Lifetime. He was also released by Sony this month after pressure from fans for him to be cut off by the label.

R. Kelly has been preparing a new album and says that it’s done. He wants to release it ASAP now and is looking for someone to distribute the project or sign with a new label to do so, according to Billboard. The songs recorded for the album were under Sony but he has full ownership now as part of the deal to leave the label.

Sources at Billboard say that Kelly’s team has been looking for a distributor for months, prior to the Surviving R. Kelly documentary scandal. It will be very difficult for any distributor/label to bring him on board for fear of criticism for signing him. Those labels can expect fans to protest that potential move.
