DMX will soon be a free man! He is set to be released this Friday, January 25, at 9 am.

The hip-hop icon, whose legal name is Earl Simmons, pleaded guilty to tax evasion back in 2017. He reportedly withheld $1.7 million in taxes from 2010-2016 by living off of cash. Unfortunately, the New York native was thrown behind bars last January after reportedly relapsing on cocaine and Oxycodone, as noted by a failed drug test. Due to his tax evasion case, the rap veteran was supposed to attend a mandatory drug treatment program. X originally faced five years in prison, but was only sentenced to one year in federal custody.
Richman also stated that X has become a hot commodity because “people have been seeking him out all over.” The Bureau of Prisons originally stated that X’s release date would be Sunday, January 27, but it’s not uncommon for some federal prisoners to be set free early if their intended release falls on a weekend.
Prosecutors tried to have X sentenced to at least four years and nine months in prison, but his attorneys urged the judge to choose rehab as a better alternative. Amid his release, X will reportedly repay the IRS through royalties and future earnings from concerts and other similar entities. The 48-year-old will also be under supervised probation for three years.
I hope that DMX can stay out of trouble and out of jail.
