For a few weeks now, the Sweetener songstress, Ariana Grande, has been teasing the release of her latest single, “7 Rings.” The highly anticipated record is finally here and has everyone excited! With last night’s release, Ariana has now surpassed 54 No.1’s worldwide on iTunes. Also, in less than twelve hours, the “7 Rings” music video has over 6.7 million views with over 1.4 million likes on YouTube, becoming one of the fastest videos in history to achieve these numbers. The new break-up anthem is currently the #1 song on Youtube US, iTunes US & UK.
Here’s a twist though… the two music videos are actually tied with one another. It turns out Ariana may have given the biggest hints of all back in November when she dropped the visual for chart topping hit “Thank U, Next” and no one realized. For starters, the ‘7 RINGS’ license plate in the video. When Grande drives up in her black Porsche inspired by Elle Woods in Legally Blonde, the car’s license plate reads “7 RINGS.” A few other subtle hints were when she did the ode to ‘Bring It On’ there were seven cheerleaders, in the ‘Mean Girls‘ skit there’s Ari with six of her friends wearing matching rings, seven books on the table when she’s reading in the skit for ‘Legally Blonde’ and more.
Another insider is, the songs may be thematically different, but they both have the same musical theme in their intros. In the “Thank U, Next” video it starts with low sounds of an electronic drumbeat that slowly begin to fade out as the song begins. The “7 Rings” video kicks off with the same motif. Could her music videos all be apart of an ultimate tease? Could these videos all be taking place in the same universe?
Could there be a third or fourth installment that ties all of these songs and their visuals together?
