Conscious rap is defined by the likes of Black Thought’s Talib Kweli and Mos Def, Common, and dead prez, among a few others. These guys have always had a lane in hip hop. In the case of Talib and Common, they have also dabbled with the mainstream.

Given how things have changed, it’s easy to forget Kanye West built his credentials as a conscious rapper. The Chicago rapper was close with all of these guys. His recent political activity has turned many of his friends off.

Talib Kweli and dead prez visited “Drink Champs,” taking the time to speak with N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN. They all spoke about how the game has changed, as hip hop is more corporate. The interview saw them touch on Kanye West, their conscious music, and much more.
