Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto On The Possibility Of Adding Mac Miller’s Name To Blue Slide Park

A vigil was held yesterday in Pittsburgh’s Blue Slide Park which is part of Frick Park to honor the late hometown star rapper Mac Miller. The idea of the park being renamed to add Miller’s name in it was brought up by fans and a petition is currently going around to make that a reality. Miller passed away last Friday at 26 after an apparent drug overdose.

Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto said he’s open to the idea of the park being renamed to add Miller’s name to the park but there are rules in place for that to happen. A three-year wait is in order for name changes in Pittsburgh after someone passes away.

“I know a lot of people have been saying we should rename the park,” said Peduto to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. There are strict rules on naming of public assets within the city now,” he said to the crowd. “I believe it’s three years after someone has passed that you can then name something after them. This was basically done in order to not have politicians naming things after themselves while they’re still in office.”

Peduto also added that him and Miller were involved in different community projects together in Pittsburgh throughout the years. Miller has had Blue Slide Park in his heart for his whole life as he also named his 2011 debut album after the park.
