HHV On The Rise: Ant Tha Giant

By Chox-Mak

There’s always respect to New York City, because hip hop started there, particularly in The Bronx. Without those pioneers, hip hop would have new grown to where it’s at. Looking at The Bronx hip hop, it’s amazing to see the likes of Cardi B on top, still representing the BX.

Ant Tha Giant is determined to be the next figure from The Bronx to blow up. He has all of the right things that it takes in order for him to reach that level. The only thing he has to do is continue delivering a high-quality product.

Recently, Ant Tha Giant took the time out to do an On The Rise interview. Fresh off the release of Welcome to Ant’z World, Ant Tha Giant is already working on his next project. But, in the meantime, he gave HHV a journey through “Ant’z World.”

Read the entire interview below:

You recently dropped a project called Welcome to Ant’z World, can you tell us more about “Ant’z World?” Absolutely! Ant’z World is a mixture of many different life experiences, learned life lessons and various felt emotions that I have gone through and had from childhood until now as a 27 year old man. I’m particularly very open with my music so I like to let my fans and just anyone who listens to get to know the real me as both Ant Tha Giant the emcee and Anthony Mitchell, the Maryland born kid who was raised in the Bronx, NY, no sugar coating, just keeping things straight and 100% real.

In this particular project, I take you on a journey from my childhood in songs like “Inner Demons” and “Music”, where it wasn’t always the most glamorous of times, having to move from school to school and being picked on often, to adulthood where I’m learning to be the best man that I can be, despite not having my father in my life, but using my own experiences to grow from. “Inner Demons” more so explains the battles I’ve faced in the past along with the ones I’m currently facing now and how I battle them trying to overcome them.

“Music” more so goes in depth on experiences I’ve had from childhood to now, but the focus is on how music has essentially saved me from the bad experiences but in turn has also shaped up some great ones, changed my life despite all of the things that I’ve gone through and has also shaped me into the person and artist that I am now. In a nutshell, my life and my world is filled with a lot of pain, heart break dealing with certain females, and loss, particularly of loved ones who have passed on, but it is also filled with great times as well, character building moments and revelations that have helped build me up to be a better man and overall person.

I’m also a goofball by nature so some of the songs I have on this project such as “Sallie Mae”, which explains my struggle dealing with paying back my extensively high balance of student loans after graduating college, and “Circus” which I explain my frustrations with how things are operating and how ignorant people are acting in this country, I express my frustrations but I do so in a humorous way, basically like a Kevin Hart’s “Laugh at my Pain” type of deal, as I do have a twisted sense of humor sometimes. That’s basically Ant’z world in a nutshell! I’m definitely proud of this project!

As a native of The Bronx, how does it feel to see French Montana, Cardi B, and Remy Ma all on incredible runs, right now? To tell the truth, I’ve never really been on the French wave but I do respect his grind, the fact that he is doing well for himself and repping the BX right. I am, however, newly a Cardi B fan after listening to her Invasion of Privacy album, which was fire! She is representing the Bronx proper which is an awesome thing! I look forward to seeing what she does from here. And Remy has always been a beast! I’m happy that she is getting the respect and props that she rightfully deserves! It feels great to know that the Bronx is getting shine! I feel it’s only right with it being the birth place of such a beautiful movement and culture! This definitely does give me a heightened sense of hope and drive for my future as a NY artist! Shout out to those three BX heavy hitters!

Because your borough is popping, right now, do you sense an opportunity to get your name out there, as well? I plan on getting my name out there regardless of the current status of my borough. The fact that it currently is popping though, there could very well be an opportunity for me to get my name out there further, but I don’t honestly feel it would guarantee it on that merit alone.

NY has a very huge market of artists trying to make it right now so the competition is fierce and a lot of artists might be and probably are using that for leverage, so I don’t 100% feel that just because the Bronx is heavy on the map right now that it would necessarily garner me that opportunity but I also won’t say that it wouldn’t either, because again it could. I plan on making my name pop on my own merit anyhow and further add to the success that the Bronx is currently experiencing!

Clearly, seeing the success of those people inspires you, so what are your own plans for the game? My plans for the game are to bring a new wave to Hip-Hop, something that it hasn’t seen and experienced before, keeping lyricism alive for the culture in a unique way through my music and exploding my fan base across the globe! I want to be able to touch people by the masses with my music and have it change lives for the better!

How have you been going about making your connections? A few different ways. Every show that I perform at, I will network with people whether it’s other artists, producers, videographers, photographers, promoters, radio hosts, etc. You never know who you will meet.

I also go to various networking events and conferences to learn more about the music business from people who have already succeeded in the business and who want to help the upcoming wave of entrepreneurs succeed, so that’s definitely a great way I have been meeting new people. Also, sometimes I will contact people via social media or vice versa. We will chop it up for a bit, get to know a little bit about each other, what the other person does and how we could possibly benefit from one another and build something great.

So far, who would you say has been the most-influential person to you, in your career? I would have to say between Eminem and Hopsin. These are two artists who have heavily influenced my style of music and are actually part of the reason I make music in the first place! The way they both create their music is legendary to me. Also, they have both overcome many huge life obstacles that were in their way to get to the pinnacle of where they currently are right now and that is a huge inspiration to me! It gives me great hope to break through my own obstacles (which some are pretty similar to theirs and has allowed me to connect to them even more) and reach success as an artist.

When will you be releasing your next project? I plan on releasing my next album, Wrath of a Giant, in the Fall of 2018 so stay tuned for that! It’s gonna be dangerous! Ha-ha.
