This move, from J. Cole, is just a little bit unusual, as fans have come to expect surprise albums from him. He ended 2014 and 2016 the same way, by dropping a surprise album at the end of the year. Both albums went platinum with no guest appearances.

J. Cole established himself as a different kind of star, with those moves, and he continues doing more. Not only is he Roc Nation’s flagship rapper, he has his own Dreamville label. These situations keep J. Cole out there, but fans want a new solo album.

Earlier this evening, J. Cole took to Twitter and announced an upcoming NYC concert. This got fan speculation up and J. Cole has now made his big announcement. Not only does Drake have a new album on the way, so does J. Cole, as KOD drops on April 20.
