On the “Drink Champs” podcast, Fat Joe made an interesting point that some may overlook. He pointed out how there are some aspiring rappers, over forty, who have never had a hit, but keep going. This in spite of them having nothing going for themselves.
Then, on the other hand, he gave props to the one hit wonders, who managed to get, at least, that one hit. There was a time, in his career, when Fat Joe was considered a one hit wonder. It took years for him to get it, and then he kept posting hits.
Similarly, Cardi B is enjoying a strong debut run, but there are people referring to her as a “one hit wonder.” But, Cardi B has a string of features, where she literally makes the track a hit. Currently, the talk about her is not music, it is LA’s reaction to her gang comments, to which Nipsey Hussle was asked about, and he said that some people think of gang culture as “fashion,” so Cardi addressed that, today, in a post-and-delete.
