Through most of 2017, it looked like DJ Khaled was cruising to BET’s award for Hustler of the Year. If he had won, he wouldn’t have been a bad pick. But, in 2017, DJ Khaled would not have been the right pick, even if Miami was the right city.
BET did right in having DJ Khaled host the Hip Hop Awards, especially with Miami being the city. How they integrated Trina, Rick Ross, Plies, and Khaled with Uncle Luke was brilliant. Together, they captured the essence of the old Miami with the Trick Daddy/Slip-N-Slide era.
When it comes to hustling in hip hop, in 2017, Cardi B is the person nobody can beat. Literally, Cardi B made “Bodak Yellow” money moves and made history. She won Hustler of the Year, she sang to her Bardi Gang, she sang to her man, Offset, and made the crowd laugh, this one’s a star, and today is her birthday.
