The year of 2017 in hip hop has been defined by Future, DJ Khaled, Kendrick Lamar, and French Montana. These four have all had the respective best year of their career in 2017. Then, outside of them, there is Jay-Z, and then newcomers, Cardi B and Kodak Black.

During the VMAs, Kendrick Lamar made his presence felt, and his argument for 2017’s top artist solidified. However, Future’s success is nothing to be overlooked. Not only did he drop two albums in consecutive weeks, he dominated the radio during the early summer.

Future, outside of that, did some big features with other artists. He has now put in his case for 2017’s MVP, with his win. Tonight, at the BMI Awards, Future was awarded the Songwriter of the Year award.
