Love him or hate him, the way Jay-Z handles himself is nothing short of brilliant. Anyone who really loves hip hop music, and the culture, must admit that. During his original run, Jay-Z delivered an album every year, each one reached number one, and went platinum.

When Jay-Z made his 2013 return, the game changed in a major way, so he created a deal with Samsung to lock in his platinum status. He ended up going platinum, anyway, off sales, gaining him double platinum status. With 4:44, Jay-Z made the same situation happen, with Sprint.

The actual retail sale of 4:44 was last week and Jay-Z came out and did strong numbers. Once again, the business deal protected Jay-Z, but he didn’t need it. On top of already being platinum, Jay-Z pushed 277,000 copies in his first physical week.
