Six years ago, Sevyn Streeter provided background vocals on the breakthrough Chris Brown single, “She Ain’t You.” The following year, she began working on her debut album. Leading with “I Like It,” late in 2012, she became a household name, doing “It Won’t Stop” with Chris.
By 2014, Sevyn Streeter looked fully prepared to take on the mantle of leader of R&B. These reigns were once held by the likes of Monica and also Keyshia Cole, among others. While doing her own thing, the vibe of her music was reminiscent of the 1990s and 2000s R&B.
Sevyn Streeter, early this morning, has people waking up to her trending. It’s nothing bad, at all, and not even her birthday, but she’s getting plenty of love. So far, Twitter says Girl Disrupted is the R&B album of the year.
