L.A. Reid is leaving Epic Records/Sony Entertainment after six years and Mariah Carey’s deal is reportedly in trouble

Six years ago, L.A. Reid was offered a position at Epic Records, returning him to his former label home of Sony. Prior to this, L.A. Reid was over Island Def Jam, where he hired Jay Z to run Def Jam. That time period saw Rick Ross, Jeezy, Rihanna, and Ne-Yo signed.

L.A. Reid would take over at Epic Records, in 2011, where he would sign plenty of artists to label deals. Such names as Future, DJ Khaled, Diddy, Yo Gotti, and Rick Ross were all signed, and to label deals. Despite this success and recently adding Mariah Carey, he’s now leaving his role.

After six years at Epic Records, where L.A. Reid has now made the label relevant, again, he has decided to leave. According to some reports, the new deal Mariah Carey signed is already in jeopardy. Reid will be serving as executive producer of “Cotton Club,” a new show coming out.
