Most followers of Q-Tip know he’s really not one for the spotlight, but an emcee who really emcees. On top of that, Q-Tip is one of the most-creative producers in the game. But, there was a brief moment in 1999 when Q-Tip actually owned the radio.
When he began working on his solo debut album, Q-Tip led it off with the “Vivrant Thing” single. The song would drop during the later half of 1999, becoming a late summer hit into the fall. His Amplified album would wind up certified gold.
It’s often said that good music is timeless and “Vivrant Thing” must fall in that category. The record is dope and sounds as if it could be a hit if it was dropped today. This week, “Vivrant Thing” is featured as this week’s Wednesday Throwback.
