After Kevin Durant left the Oklahoma City Thunder, it was easy to compare the Thunder to the Orlando Magic. Twenty years before, the Magic were a brand-new franchise with two young superstars. Even creepier is that both teams made surprising runs to the NBA Finals.
Both teams came up short, and when the contract expired, the leading player left the team. So much of KD and Russell Westbrook can be compared to Shaq and Penny. But, Westbrook is putting up a much bigger fight than Penny ever did leading the Magic post-Shaq.
Russell Westbrook came into this season on a mission, even though it’s clear the Thunder won’t win 50 games, this season. However, Westbrook was on a personal tear, bringing in an NBA-record triple doubles. He hit the game-winner to beat the Denver Nuggets, and Twitter wants Russell Westbrook to be the MVP AAAAND for Kevin Durant to present it to him.
