While there are many disappointments with how Barack Obama’s presidency will end, but it can’t be forgotten how it started. Few people believed Obama could do what he did. In the end, he made the comments of Robert F. Kennedy a prophecy.
Kennedy said, just before his 1968 death, that America would elect a black president within the next forty years. In 2008, Obama became that man, gaining historic wins in Virginia, Indiana, and North Carolina. That, alone, was inspiring for many reasons.
Getting re-elected came as a surprise to some and the time has come to say goodbye. Tonight, BET and Centric have put together the #ThankYouObama sendoff for the president and his wife, Michelle Obama, which Terrence J and Regina Hall are hosting. Many celebrities, such as DJ Khaled, Bradley Cooper, Usher, Jill Scott, Common, and more are present.
As the memories are being recounted and celebration ensuing, Twitter is also celebrating Obama’s legacy.
