Without question, hip hop has faced a void when it comes to having a new leader. The likes of Jay Z and Nas have honestly seen their time come and go. Meanwhile, the runs of Rick Ross and Jeezy always seemed fleeting.

Out of the 2009 crop, Drake, Big Sean, Nicki Minaj, Wale, and J. Cole have all had varying success. After finally breaking through with “No Problem,” gaining radio success, Chance The Rapper has made himself a factor. He has definitely come a long way over this span of time.

Often rubbing shoulders with Jay Z and Beyonce, Chance The Rapper remains an independent artist. That’s not been a problem, as Chance is leading a voter march through Chicago to the polls and is in good with Hillary Clinton. On top of that, this week saw Chance The Rapper top Billboard’s urban chart, making him the apparent leader of the new school.
