Admittedly, New York hip hop, and hip hop as a whole, has felt a major void since Jay Z’s 2003 retirement. Even though he returned, Jay Z never became that “album a year” rapper again. Lil Wayne and Rick Ross brought consistency for a few years, however.
Furthermore, guys like Jadakiss and Jeezy promised it. With the implementation of mixtapes into the mainstream, Gucci Mane and Waka Flocka took the game over. Even guys like Ace Hood are good for a mixtape, or two, each year.
But, the real consistency of a star was missing and French Montana looked as if he could change that. The Bronx rapper built giant momentum, signed with Bad Boy, dropped a top ten hit, but then waited another year to drop his lone album. At the end of 2013, he revealed Mac & Cheese 4 would be his next album and it never came.
During a recent interview with Complex, French Montana revealed he intends to scrap the album. On the other side of things, French Montana is a rising celebrity and recently hung out with Michael J. Fox.
