Since “Empire” premiered, it has been television’s number one show. It has succeeded in showing the black life, outside of the norm, and attracted a wide audience. In a pivotal election, “Empire” boasts a huge platform.
Definitely an unexpected move, “Empire’s” cast did a commercial, directed by series creator, Lee Daniels, endorsing Hillary Clinton. This bucks the trend of TV series’ staying neutral in politics. Seeing how Andre (Trai Byers) was harassed by cops, the commercial was no shock.
“Empire” has remained television’s number one show over the entire year of 2015 and the bulk of 2016. However, after their endorsement of Hillary Clinton, there is some backlash from fans. Several racist, homophobic, and other comments in disapproval have surfaced after “Empire” endorsed Clinton.
