Eleven years ago, Mariah Carey took a risk with Jermaine Dupri and followed him to Def Jam, then helmed by Jay Z. The final result was The Emancipation of Mimi, her classic album. This led to Mariah Carey taking the game back over.

Mariah Carey’s 2005 success continued well into 2016, when she re-released “Say Somethin'” as a single. During the spring of 2006, the Snoop Dogg-assisted track emerged. The song was produced by Pharrell, during a very creative time period for him.

Tonight, Mariah Carey made her long-awaited debut on “Empire” in the role of Kitty. Apparently, Kitty is just a legendary as MC, as Jamal (Jussie Smollett) was taken aback when Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) introduced them. Reflecting on this, Hip Hop Vibe chose “Say Somethin'” as the Wednesday Throwback.
