Most Disappointing Teams In NBA Finals History: 1993 Phoenix Suns

Had it not been for the amount of history and energy riding on this series, it would not have been featured. No team going up against the historic Michael Jordan-led Bulls in the NBA Finals is disappointing. If one team could take them, it was Charles Barkley’s Suns, however.

Charles Barkley was traded from the Philadelphia 76ers to the Phoenix Suns, per his request, in 1992. Feeling as if he couldn’t win in Philly, he made an immediate impact with the Suns. His MVP campaign took them from 53 wins to a league-best 62 wins.

Upon winning the 1993 MVP Award, Charles Barkley said his Suns were destined to win the championship. Immediately, this was exposed, as Michael Jordan led the Bulls to a 2-0 series lead in Phoenix, before coming back home. Ironically, both home teams performed poorly, but the Suns went a Finals-worst 0-3 at home WITH home court advantage, as MJ’s 55 in Game 4 saved the Bulls from the same fate.

Claiming destiny and getting lit up how the Suns were by Michael Jordan makes them also among the most-disappointing teams in NBA Finals history. They rank up there with the 2016 Golden State Warriors, among the others.
