What has taken place over the past four years has been shocking and disappointing. Ever since the Trayvon Martin shooting took place, more and more black youth have gotten shot and killed. Because of this, the Black Lives Matters movement was created.
There is a big Black Lives Matters movement going on, but the celebrity status isn’t fully involved. During the BET Awards, Jesse Williams, the popular “Grey’s Anatomy” actor, spoke on this. In his speech, he urged the black celebrities to step up and get active on this matter.
Jesse Williams’ speech made him BET’s face, literally, for their encore presentation of “Stay Woke.” Their documentary sheds light on the shootings of the black youth, Tollette George in Louisiana, Jeremiah Dingle in Maryland, this month, alone that have taken place. But, BET’s coverage on Ferguson and the other shootings has people on Twitter talking.
