This May, Moogfest returns in style, debuting in Durham, bringing along many of entertainment’s biggest names. Festivities begin on May 19, lasting until the 22nd. These days are filled with events from the afternoon into the night, stemming from entertainment to education.

GZA, of the Wu-Tang Clan, has taken on a two night residency for this year’s Moogfest. Meanwhile, Gary Numan has agreed to take on three nights for this year. ODESZA, Laurie Anderson, Oneohtrix Point Never, Suzanne Ciani, Blood Orange, and Sun Ra Arkestra are also headlining.

Moogfest will focus on both entertainment and education, with keynote presentations by transhumanist activist and pharma tycoon Dr. Martine Rothblatt, and computer scientist Jaron Lanier, a pioneer in the field of virtual reality. Over one hundred entertainment acts will be performing. Conferences will consist of contributions from program partners, MIT Media Lab, Google, Duke University, Georgia Institute of Technology, The New Museum’s New Inc., IDEO, Gray Area, and the EyeO Festival.

Taking place in Durham, for the first time ever, Moogfest focuses on technology and creative workshops during the day. At night, the entertainment segment takes place, with this year boasting the strongest hip hop lineup, ever. The headliner is GZA, but also performing will be Tory Lanez, Lunice, Denzel Curry, King Mez, and Well$, as Moogfest will occupy seventeen venues in downtown Durham, including a free outdoor stage.

Comedian, Reggie Watts will also be present for Moogfest, as will Ryan Hemsworth, who headlines Dance Floor Titans, consisting of DJ Harvey, Robert Hood, Kode9, Simian Mobile Disco, and Kyle Hall and Paula Temple. The legendary Bootsy Collins will be performing at the free show. Meanwhile, Mike Dean will be doing an experimental session.

Expect more Moogfest announcements over the next couple of weeks and Hip Hop Vibe will be present, capturing footage, powered by Dailymotion.
