Coming as no surprise, Rihanna has gone platinum with #ANTI. The pop star made her return to the game this week and it was a bit of a surprise. However, her album partnership with Samsung was expected, seeing how Jay Z rolled out his last album.
Rihanna was originally signed to Def Jam by Jay Z, but stayed on after he left to form Roc Nation. But, she would sign a management deal, keeping her and Jay Z together. Since closing out her Def Jam deal, however, Rihanna fully signed to Jay Z’s label.
Being on Jay Z’s label means Rihanna gets his type of treatment. Her album release is an automatic $25 million per the Samsung deal. A million copies of her album were sold, but Billboard and SoundScan are not counting those sales, as they are only tracking what fans are purchasing.
