In 2005, Jay Z took over as head of Def Jam and oversaw the additions of Rihanna, Ne-Yo, Young Jeezy, and others. Among those others was popular Detroit singer, Teairra Mari. However, she was a bit closer to him, as she signed to his Roc-A-Fella Records.
During the summer of 2005, Teairra Mari and Rihanna had massive single releases. Rihanna dominated with “Pon de Relpy,” meanwhile there was “Make Her Feel Good” from Teairra Mari. The latter even had a remix from Kanye West.
Overseeing the entire project was L.A. Reid and he recently spoke to Billboard about this period of time. In this interview, he made a startling revelation. During the interview, Reid admitted he banked on Teairra Mari being the breakout artists from the two singers.
