During season one of “Empire,” Andre (Trai Byers) was the low key villain. Behind the scenes, Andre worked to pull everyone’s strings to make everyone turn on each other. While the Lyon family fought, Andre hoped to take over as CEO after Lucious (Terrence Howard).
Andre’s first move came when Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) was released from prison. Upon her prison release, Andre put Cookie up to managing Jamal (Jussie Smollett). Due to Lucious’ favoring of Hakeem (Bryshere “Yazz” Gray), this led to tension between the previously close brothers.
Early in “Empire” season two, the fighting between Jamal and Hakeem reached an all-time high. With Andre preparing to become a father and finding God, he decided to confess his sins. Visiting with Jamal, Andre told him and Hakeem that he was the one behind the robbery and the war with Cookie and Lucious that put the brothers at odds.
