Safe to say, Jimmy Iovine changed Dr. Dre’s life and vice versa. Since the day Interscope Records opened for business, Jimmy Iovine has had Dr. Dre on the roster. Originally, Dr. Dre left Ruthless Records in order to form Death Row Records, which did a deal with Interscope.
Following the Death Row deal, Dr. Dre created Aftermath in partnership with Interscope. Since then, every major Dr. Dre business deal is done with Jimmy Iovine and Interscope. Beats by Dre was among those deals.
Last summer, Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine were a part of the historic $3 billion deal with Apple. This deal has since led to the birth of Apple Music, a primary competitor of Jay Z’s TIDAL. Now, Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine are being sued by Noel Lee, as he claims he originally created Beats by Dre and the Interscope moguls stole the concept.
