There may be a handful of people out there who have missed it, at this point, but the recurring theme on “Empire” is family. The flashbacks that Lucious (Terrence Howard) has with his mother (Kelly Rowland) prove this. Due to Lucious’ actions, the family is falling apart.
Each son has good reason to hate Lucious, despite him doing his best to make amends. Once the favorite son, Hakeem (Bryshere “Yazz” Gray) is the one who hates him now. This hatred, plus a strong push from his ex-girlfriend, Camilla (Naomi Campbell) was the push he needed.
Hakeem voted Lucious out as chairman of Empire, as Camilla cheered him on. Seeing this, firsthand, Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) was obviously upset, as the company she and Lucious built is now out of their control and she spit on Camilla for her part. This led to a strong reaction from the fans on Twitter.
