When “Empire” began, Hakeem (Bryshere “Yazz” Gray) was the son who could do no wrong. Lucious (Terrence Howard) favored him and wanted him to run the company. Ultimately, he saw Jamal (Jussie Smollett) was the son more fit for the job.
As Lucious and Jamal bonded, he and Hakeem saw their relationship fall apart. First, Lucious began scolding and hitting Hakeem, but this paled in comparison to him running Camilla (Naomi Campbell) out of the country. After this, Lucious viciously punched Hakeem in the face.
Due to Mimi (Marisa Tomei) trying to oust Lucious from Empire, he needed the family to come together. Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) explained this to Hakeem, but when it was time to vote, he had a flashback and decided to hit Lucious where it hurts. This sent Twitter into a major frenzy, bashing Hakeem and taking in Lucious’ desire to kill his youngest son.
