There are only so many ways to say “Empire” won last night. The braintrust behind Lee Daniels had phenomenal results to their labor of love over the summer. People are still talking about how Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) opened last night’s episode of the show.

Cookie opened the show in a jail cell, dressed in a gorilla outfit. Her following speech was questioning how long “we” would be treated like animals. After getting out of the costume, Cookie was definitely throwing “it” at Mimi (Marisa Tomei).

Ilene Chaiken spoke to TV Line about the “Empire” season two premiere. There were questions about why they chose to do the scenes that way and Chaiken spoke of Lee Daniels presenting her with the idea and her being unable to tell him no. In regards to the lesbian scenes, Chaiken said the character of Mimi was originally a man, but they needed him interesting, thus making him a woman who wanted Cookie and Anika (Grace Gealey).
