Andre Harrell talks history of Uptown Records with “The Breakfast Club” [VIDEO]

Andre Harrell Breakfast ClubMuch credit goes to Def Jam for being the most successful hip hop record labels, but many other labels also had success. In the mid to late 1980s, Andre Harrell had a good run with Uptown Records. This label was home to Al B Sure!, Mary J. Blige, Heavy D, and others.

Uptown Records was one of the most successful hip hop labels during its time. A former executive for the label is Diddy, who left his position at Uptown to launch Bad Boy Records. They went onto have tremendous success in the music industry.

Andre Harrell recently stopped by Power 105.1 to talk to “The Breakfast Club” trio. Charlamagne Tha God, Angela Yee, and DJ Envy had a great conversation about the old school R&B of the 1990s. They also talked about the history of Uptown Records and the sound they created.
